Head to the Heart Confirmation:
The Basics

Classes vs Community

Confirmation doesn’t fail because of bad pastors, bad parents, or bad kids. It fails because many churches keep relying on the same outdated system — hoping that flashier materials, a charismatic youth director, or a bigger budget will fix the problem.

But this is a systems issue, not a style issue. And systems problems require systems solutions.

Head to the Heart™ Confirmation offers a fresh, integrated approach — one that rethinks how faith is formed through relationships, relevance, and real-life application. It’s not about flash. It’s about faith that lasts.

Traditional Confirmation vs. Head to the Heart Confirmation

For many, Christian confirmation education still evokes images of lectures, workbooks, neat rows of chairs, and cramming in information for the sake of tradition.

But there’s a better way.

Imagine confirmation built around small peer groups, daily parent involvement at home, pastoral care, and intergenerational connection. Imagine a model that doesn’t just push faith in — but draws faith out through conversation, reflection, and lived experience.

Head to the Heart™ Confirmation is designed for this very shift — from passive learning to active formation, from isolation to community, from tradition to transformation.

Confirmation Instruction vs. Confirmation Ministry

Head to the Heart™ Confirmation is intentionally designed to blur the lines between youth group and youth education. By making confirmation relational, engaging, and fun, it creates an environment where students not only learn — they want to stay.

The result? Youth retain both the faith content and their connection to the church long after Confirmation Sunday.

This isn’t just about teaching doctrine — it’s about forming disciples.

Small Peer Groups for Students are an Essential Feature

In today’s world, adolescent relationships have shifted dramatically — from regular face-to-face interactions to digital connections via FaceTime and social media.

According to Monitoring the Future, the percentage of high school seniors who gather with friends in person “almost every day” dropped from 44% in 2010 to just 32% in 2022. Social outings for eighth graders dropped from 2.5 per week in 2000 to 1.5 in 2021, and a 2021 Journal of Adolescence study found that adolescent loneliness nearly doubled between 2012 and 2018.

Head to the Heart™: Building Community That Matters

Head to the Heart Confirmation recognizes this reality and responds with a relational solution:
Small Peer Groups are the backbone of the Head to the Heart faith formation system — a space where students connect, reflect, and grow in faith together.

Each Head to the Heart lesson includes:

  • A student handout designed to guide small group discussion and personal reflection

  • A leader-specific guide for the trained adult Guide, offering prompts and tools to facilitate meaningful conversation

This structure not only strengthens understanding of the weekly lesson but also combats isolation by nurturing deep, authentic relationships — the kind that form community and sustain faith long after confirmation.

It’s Time to Give Parents Back to Their Kids

At Faith Inkubators, our mission is clear: to restore parents as the primary faith teachers, mentors, and role models in their children's lives. The role of the church is not to replace parents — but to equip, support, and reinforce them in that sacred calling.

The family has been, is, and always will be the primary incubator of faith. That’s not just a philosophy — it’s a reality backed by both Scripture and experience. When the home and church work together, faith sticks, and generations are changed.
